Picking Berries
Yesterday evening we went to a friends house to pick some veggies from her garden. She's on vacation and gave us permission to harvest from her bumper crop. Aside from the traditional tomatoes, zucchini, green beans, snap peas, beets, and corn, she also has some thornless blackberry bushes. Now, when we got there I wasn't going to pick berries because, you know, "I'm too old for that kind of thing". But then I thought "Well, maybe if I'm careful I won't get berry juice all over my hands". Yeah right! No sooner do I grab the first berry, trying to gently remove it, than I have warm, sticky, magenta juice flowing down my fingers into my palm. I looked at it for a moment, cringing a little, then thought "Oh, what the heck. Who's gonna care anyway? I've always enjoyed picking berries in the past so I can still enjoy it." And I did! I had a blast with my sissies. When I was done I looked at my hands, they were very sticky and covered in the magenta juice. My fingernails weren't much to look at either. But they'll wash up and be none the worse for wear, what matters is that I had fun with the girls, after all, we won't always live together and I want our memories to be of wonderful, fun times together, even if we got a little messy :) We are going to make a couple fresh berry pies too! Yummy!
